Job Summary: The Asset Management intern will be responsible for assisting asset managers on analysis and decision making regarding various engineering and environmental aspects of NRG’s wholesale power generation plants.  NRG’s diverse mix of power plants include oil, natural gas and coal fired units located across the US.  This specific internship opportunity will be located at the NRG plant located in Staten Island, NY.  The selected candidate will work closely with the Director, Asset Management responsible for NRG’s plants in New England and New York.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of the Company’s generation fleet including:
    • The types of technology/merit order/fuel type that are in the fleet;
    • Regulatory developments and the impact they have on asset opportunities;
    • Market rules and operation of competitive power generation in the New York ISO and ISO-New England wholesale power markets
  • Work across the functional areas including, but not limited to, Operations, Environmental, Regulatory, and Commercial Operations.
  • Assist with other special projects as needed

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering is required
  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA  overall and in your major required
  • Must be currently enrolled in a college/university and a minimum of having completed their Junior year of undergraduate education after the spring semester 2019

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or strong interest in power generation and energy related topics preferred
  • Competency in use of MS Office particularly Excel and Word; PowerPoint a plus

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated analytical skills; ability to "think outside of the box"
  • Excellent communication skills; including strong oral and writing skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
