Are you seeking a project management opportunity that involves providing electrical and control system engineering support?  Imagine your next position as a Staff Electrical / Automation Controls Engineer with U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) in our Engineering department in Nashville, TN.     U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company’s  role is to responsibly manufacture and market USSTC smokeless brands to adult tobacco consumers in a financially disciplined way. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing electrical engineering and automation control support/direction to the capital projects group, as well as leading the execution of capital projects and interaction with the controls group in the manufacturing facilities of USSTC.
Specific accountabilities include:

  • Manage the development and execution of multiple engineering projects/programs for USSTC products across the USSTC manufacturing facilities.
  • Manage various project teams comprised of internal and external resources to accomplish project requirements including scope, functional descriptions, budget, and timeline.
  • Strong ability to independently architect, lead and complete projects and research studies requiring the application of electrical control systems.
  • Interacting with others on electrical/automation control, safety and compliance to assure alignment and to influence technical direction.  
  • Providing programming for both development and troubleshooting of the following types of systems in a manufacturing environment: PLC (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley); HMI/SCADA (Microsoft .NET, Rockwell Software); Vision (Keyence, Cognex).
  • Providing Electrical and Control Systems Engineering support to various clients - including but not limited to: Engineering, Information Systems, Maintenance, Quality and Manufacturing.
  • Analyzing data and applying problem solving techniques to develop and implement improvements for methods, processes, products, systems, documentation and/or equipment.
  • Sharing technical expertise with others to insure that operational knowledge is transferred to production and maintenance resources.
  • Participation in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), IQ/OQ/PQ (Installation Qualification/Operational Qualification/Process Qualification), audits and training programs.
  • Support to other USSTC manufacturing facilities, Altria locations and vendors/OEM’s. (Limited travel)


Specific Skills

 Qualifications include:

  • 4 year undergraduate degree or professional engineering license; advanced degree and/or equivalent skills through demonstrated experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on technical industrial work experience with process controls, PLC’s, and instrumentation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead technical project teams to achieve project goals.
  • The ability to provide guidance and direction on priorities, changes to support scope, problem resolution, and coordination of activities between projects.
  • Experience with fiduciary and budgeting policies/practices long with proficiency with numerous software applications.
  • Working knowledge of MSSQL SCADA systems and data transactions to electrical control systems.
  • Working knowledge of primary processing, high-speed packaging machinery and motional control systems in a manufacturing environment would be helpful.
