Vertex is seeking an Associate Director to join the Marketing Science team in the Commercial organization. The Marketing Science team is responsible for delivering commercial insights to support strategic decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of commercial activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a revamped team that is supporting Vertex efforts to deliver transformative medicines in Cystic Fibrosis and other serious diseases.
Responsibilities
Vertex has a CF portfolio of three approved medicines and additional medicines in development. The Associate Director will be responsible for delivering global commercial insights for our marketed and pipeline products in CF.
The AD will be an integral member of each of the Global Commercial Brand Teams. The AD is expected to be knowledgeable about global brand performance and partner with the team to:
  • Understand the drivers of performance at a global level - both globally consistent themes and unique issues in key markets
  • Maintain deep understanding of key external stakeholders - their beliefs, attitudes, behaviors as it relates to CF and our portfolio of medicines
  • Translate stakeholder insights into implications for action for the brands
To deliver against these objectives, the AD's responsibilities include:
  • Design and execute key global research projects to understand brand performance and drivers (for marketed products), and brand development and launch planning (for pipeline products)
  • Closely coordinate with North American and International Insights colleagues to maintain a pulse on ongoing local projects and draw key global implications
  • Maintain a global insights document that is periodically refreshed, and represents current understanding of key issues and insights from cross-functional sources
  • Track key brand and portfolio KPIs to measure progress against brand priorities
The AD is also responsible for the situational analysis for the annual brand planning process, and will:
  • Deliver an insights document that synthesizes insights from cross-functional partners (marketing, market access, medical affairs, policy, patient engagement, corporate affairs)
  • Run the process to deliver these integrated insights, including any global cross-functional workshops
Across all these activities, the AD is expected to function as a thought partner to the Global Brand Directors and provide objective perspective and insights.

Qualification:

This individual must be highly self-driven and intellectually curious, and blend technical expertise with sound business judgment to address business problems.
  • 6+ years in bio-pharma marketing, market research and/or analytics; 3+ years in management consulting or advisory support preferred
  • Graduate degree (Masters or higher) in Business, Marketing, Economics, Statistics
  • Strong understanding of the biopharma commercialization process; experience with go-to-market approaches and launch planning
  • Strong experience working with global brands and understanding insights from global markets
  • Well-versed with a variety of primary market research methodologies; substantial experience managing design and execution of primary market research projects
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills; experience running own analyses as well as partnering with advanced analytics professionals, and interpreting results
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - able to synthesize and distill complex information into a compelling narrative
  • Proactive orientation - able to anticipate issues, engage with stakeholders and plan accordingly
  • Demonstrated track of engaging as thought partner with stakeholders
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to effectively structure problems and solution approaches
