ABOUT THE POSITION

Office Assistants provide a variety of office support duties to County departments, performing complex and technical processing or program support functions within an identifiable and prescribed framework. Responsibilities may include conducting transactions with the public and other employees requiring interpretation of laws, rules, policies and procedures and serving as department liaison to other agencies. Assignments require Office Assistants to use initiative and independent judgment, and some may function as lead workers.

Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are required for these positions.

Current Vacancies:
There are continuous vacancies for Office Assistant III Bilingual Assignments in County of Marin departments. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and any future vacancies for open, fixed term, full-time, and part-time positions that may occur while the list remains active. This list will remain active for six (6) months.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: Theideal candidate will need to have strong organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities. Strong verbal and written skills in both Spanish and English are essential. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly become proficient in internal systems and be able to work independently. In addition, this individual will have experience working with the public. The ideal candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Office computer programs.

Minimum Qualifications and Special Requirements:Typically, the equivalent of three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience that demonstrates the knowledge and skills listed in the class specification. Formal administrative office support and/or secretarial courses or training may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

Bilingual assignments are distinguished by the required proficiency in the English language as well as a designated second language. Proficiency requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form, sufficient to convey information and instructions to the public and other employees.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

Testing and eligible list:Qualified candidates will be tested on their Microsoft Word and Excel skills. Those who receive passing scores on these tests may have their application materials reviewed and the most qualified candidates may be certified to the departments for a selection interview.

Successful candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidate possesses the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.

County Employees as Disaster Service Workers:All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
